Careers

An online self-assessment tool designed to help students and graduates explore potential career paths. Created at MSL Group for EY.

The 'EY & You' online self-assessment tool is based on a set of real world situations and multiple choice answers. By completing the quiz users are given insight into potential EY-relevant career paths with suggested links to additional EY content - encouraging further user engagement and increasing brand awareness. In addition to the UI design a key requirement of my involvement was to define, source and oversee an illustration style that would bring the question and answer content to life.

Illustrations

A lively, character-driven illustration style was key in capturing and maintaining user engagement throughout the duration of the quiz. Concepts for player avatars and quiz questions were sketched and storyboarded before commissioning an external illustrator to create final assets. I was responsible for initial concept generation, draft sketches and art direction of all final assets. Short, looped animations were used to add an extra layer of surprise, interest and personality throughout.

UI design

The self-selection tool took the form of a responsive website, accessible on multiple platforms and devices. Layouts were optimised for a landscape tablet format for future on-campus promotional events. Technical restraints of using animated gifs throughout (including load times, and file format limitations) were taken into consideration during the design process. Using the EY corporate brand guidelines as base, I created a UI style and layout to support the illustration-led approach. The impact of the illustrations were maximised on the question/answer layouts, using a horizontal 50/50 split layout to make the most of the quirky animations and characters.
